Electronic Reference Services – This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the acceptance of digital intervention services (DRS) among university students in Pakistan.

Based on the unified theory of technology acceptance and use (UTAUT), the proposed study tested 12 relationships hypothesized through structural equation modeling (SEM). The survey method is quantitative based on the online distributed journals among Pakistani university authors which was filled by 289 respondents. The questionnaire used in this study was adapted from other validated instruments used in previous empirical studies. Descriptive and non-descriptive analyzes were conducted using SPSS and AMOS for SEM.

Results showed value, ease of use, and information and communication technology (ICT) skills as predictors of DRS adoption. However, it was found that the effect of demographic variables (age, gender, and type of library) on the relationship between predictors and outcome variables was insignificant. The findings of this study indicate that the willingness of individuals to adopt DRS exists in university libraries in Pakistan.

The Importance Of 24/7 Reference Service Collaboration

In the context of Pakistan, this study is the first attempt to examine the determinants of DRS adoption at the individual level. In addition, two new items – ICT skills and library style – were included in the UTAUT model and analyzed in the context of Pakistan. However, these two factors were found to have no effect on readers’ acceptance of the DRS. The proposed study is also useful for readers in other countries to better understand the factors that influence the adoption of DRS.
