The cabin also offers a group chat that makes it easy for everyone to be on the same page. You can also contact individual members and receive push alerts when new messages arrive.
The reminder feature is quite powerful, allowing you to create reminders for an entire group or an individual. You can set reminders to notify the recipient about their tasks at a specific time or place. Even if someone needs constant prodding to do something, I can repeat it.

The debut of Cabin on Android is probably the reason why Android design is used well. A sliding navigation menu lets you quickly switch between tasks. The cabin has a very clean look with a good focus on essential content.
The full potential of the app will not be realized until the iOS version is launched. Then this can be the best cross-platform tracking sharing app for families. Until then, the Android version is a solid effort, though it may not appeal to those who want to keep in touch with their iPhone-toting friends.

My inner dog became a part-time dog earlier this year when we finished our backyard fence. Apollo was adamant about expanding his playground, but as a dog owner I had mixed feelings. Fi is very similar to Apple’s Find My feature for sharing your location with family and friends—except you don’t have to buy your dog an iPhone. The smart dog collar has a rechargeable tracker that is stylish and unobtrusive. Seriously, Apollo couldn’t stand that red bandana after the grooming meeting, but he wore the Phi necklace for months without complaint.
Similar to Find My, you can remotely check your dog’s location on your smartphone. It’s great for making sure your pet is where it needs to be when you’re at work or out on the town.
You can get alerts if your dog runs away from home or takes a break during a walk. Fi believes that even dogs leave the house for a walk. You will not be notified that your dog has escaped from home if it is walking with someone identified as the owner. All they need is the Fi app.
Luckily, Apollo hasn’t really run away since becoming a part-time emergency dog. However, we have manually tested what happens when a pet leaves a certain area or goes for a walk with someone not authorized to lead your dog.

Fi can notify the event owner using an SMS text message, a push notification from the app, or both. The accuracy of the response time and location data for the alert is reliable enough that I’m sure Fi would have been a life saver if Apollo had actually escaped.
If your dog is missing, you can put Fi into lost mode. It updates the caller’s location every two minutes and turns the built-in LED light red for better visibility. (You can optionally run the LED in any color while walking at night.)
The Fi Necklace is available at tryfi.com in four sizes (11.5 to 34.5 inches) and four colors (yellow/grey/blue/pink) for $149. You can change the color style or opt for a new martingale band ($29) for dogs who tend to avoid standard collars. Fi also sells additional Fi Bases ($39) that are used to charge and extend Fi wireless connections throughout the home.
